We aim to foster lifelong learners who can direct and take responsibility for their own learning and to ensure successful learning outcomes for all our students.
Literacy and numeracy are core learning areas in primary school. We have a daily 2-hour literacy block that encompasses reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing. The 1-hour numeracy block includes: number, measurement, space, chance and data.
Our school-produced Palmerston Perspective provides students with a rich selection of studies integrating: science, technology, the arts, social science and health.
Palmerston students begin their school year with the Learning to Learn program to develop their understanding of how they learn and how best they can maximise learning for themselves.
Specialist Classes: Music, Indonesian and Physical Education
Music features very strongly at Palmerston District Primary School. Students from k-6 have a weekly lesson with our specialist music teacher. Choir and recorder groups are optional, with our students frequently showcasing their talents at public performances. The school also engages the services of Musicorps to provide individual tuition to children. A strings program is offered for our students in k-2, and a band program for our students in 4-6. Brochures are available from the school.
Students from k-6 have a weekly lesson with our specialist Indonesian teacher. The program incorporates a taste of both the Indonesian language and the Indonesian culture.
Students from k-6 also have a weekly lesson on a cyclical basis with specialist teachers in Physical Education (fundamental motor skills), Library (information literacy skills) and Second Step (social skills).
