Palmerston Primary serves the suburb of Palmerston as well as The Promenade in Nicholls, and designated areas in Ngunnawal, and Gungahlin.

The suburb of Palmerston was named after the Palmer family, who were the owners of the property where the suburb now lies. The streets are named after Australian mountains.
