What our vision looks like in the classroom

Students spend 60 minutes at least four times a week investigating and exploring maths concepts

  • Evident in class timetables

Teachers use a range of consistent assessments to cater for the individual needs of the students

  • Kindergarten to year 2 use SENA 1 and 2 to inform their practice
  • Kindergarten use PIPS
  • All teachers to use pre and post testing to assess students on units of work
  • Senior classes use a combination of MYMC, SENA 2 and pre and post testing to assess students achievement
  • Formative assessment is evident in teaching lessons to inform instruction
  • Informal observations

Mathematics is taught explicitly using whole class, shared and independent learning experiences

  • Evident in planning and class walk throughs
  • Each teaching team plans their mathematics program based on the Australian Curriculum
  • A numeracy overview is planned for each term consisting of teaching resources, units of work from Go maths and Carol Spencer strategies. These units of work are consistent across the year levels.

Teachers utilise planning time to further their understanding of how mathematics is taught and reflect on data and best practice

  • Reflection on mathematics during PLT meetings
  • Utilise team planning sessions to discuss and analyse data to inform teaching
  • Best practice is shared during senior and junior professional learning team meetings
  • Smarts Goals

Mathematics is visible in every classroom, Maths walls, and resources strategy posters

  • Number charts, Mental computation strategies and mathematics vocabulary work is visible in every classroom
  • Word Walls
  • Students mathematical work on display

All teachers will participate in the draft scope & sequence and learning goals

  • Teachers are following Palmerston’s mathematics scope and sequence.
  • Teachers are setting learning goals for students to cater for differentiation in the classroom
