Specialist Classes


The Arts

Specialist Arts programs includes Visual and Performing Arts including Music and Drama.

Students K-6 have weekly lessons with a specialist teacher with expertise in The Arts rotating through Music, Visual and Performing arts. In addition, students at Palmerston have the opportunity to join the ACT’s Instrumental Music Program (IMP) in Years 5 & 6 and participate in the IMP’s Violin Program in Years 3 & 4.

Health and Physical Education

Specialist Health and Physical Education (HPE) Teachers work in both the junior and senior school providing lessons and facilitating workshops, clinics, carnivals and events.

Junior school (years K-2) Health and Physical Education is all about having fun with movement skills, learning new games and participation. Children explore how to be healthy, safe and active. We provide experiences introducing a wide range of different sports and games to activate interest in all children.

HPE lessons in Years 3-6 provide regular opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills that support an active and healthy lifestyle by making informed choices.

Japanese

Students in Years 2-6 have the opportunity to learn Japanese. The Japanese language program aims to develops students’ understandings of both language and culture. Students develop skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking through songs and games, skits and cultural activities. An Annual Japanese Fun Day is a highlight for students with cooking, craft and games rotations.  At Palmerston we believe that languages education opens the door to living and working in the 21st Century as a global citizen.
